Vizag, East Godavari among top 30 districts in exports
Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts have found a place among top 30 districts chosen by the Government of India in contributing significantly to exports.

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts have found a place among top 30 districts chosen by the Government of India in contributing significantly to exports.
While Visakhapatnam occupies 14th slot among top exporting districts, East Godavari has found a place in 18th position. Jamnagar and Surat of Gujarat and Mumbai and Mumbai suburban (Maharashtra) respectively occupy the top four slots. The data for the top 30 districts for the period of April-September was compiled and released recently.
Exports from Visakhapatnam is contributed by coconut-based products, alloy wheels, cashew, black pepper, sea foods, turmeric, honey, handicrafts like Etikoppakka toys, minerals and mineral-based products (apatite, crystalline Limestone, quartz, vermiculite, white clay, ruby, mica, calcite, red and yellow ochre), silver oak wood, Araku Coffee and ginger powder,
Top five commodities exported from Visakhapatnam contribute to $2470 million out of total export turnover of $2755 million. The top five commodities are engineering goods ($845 million), organic and inorganic chemicals ($777 million), drugs and pharmaceuticals ($469 million), marine products ($239 million) and petroleum products ($137 million).
East Godavari, also located in North Coastal Andhra, accounts for $2196 million through top five commodities out of total export turnover of $2472 million.The top five products exported from the district include engineering goods, rice, marine products, electronic goods and animal husbandry and dairy products. Kakinada, which has anchorage and deep water ports is known for highest rice exports with annual exports of $305 million.
Expressing satisfaction over the outstanding achievement by the two districts, Minister for Industries, Commerce and IT Mekapati Goutham Reddy tweeted on Monday: "#Visakhapatnam & #East Godavari are among top #export districts in the country-key products include #Drugs&Pharmaceuticals, #EngineeringGoods, #MarineProducts."
The information on top 30 districts in the field of exports was given by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel in Rajya Sabha in a written reply. Under the districts as export hubs initiative, products and services with export potential have been identified for all districts of the country. The Minister said the list of such identified products and services is regularly updated on the basis of inputs received from the States/UTs.
Under the initiative, the district export action plans have been prepared to focus on exporting more goods and commodities among the identified items and services and explore the potential in the overseas markets. She said the Government of India extends required support and infrastructure to the local exporters and manufacturers for improvement of quality, ensuring supply in adequate quantity on time to reach the potential buyers outside India. The government also plans meeting the challenges, improving supply chains, market accessibility and handholding to boost exports.
